Numbers 13 – Verses of Numbers 13 from the book of Numbers in the Bible.

 And the Lord said to Moses: “

 Send some men on a reconnaissance mission to the land of Canaan, the land I give to the Israelites. Send a leader from each tribe of your ancestors.”

 So Moses sent them out of the wilderness of Paran, as the Lord commanded. They were all leaders of the Israelites.

 These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Sammua, son of Zaccur;

 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;

 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

 of the tribe of Issachar, Jigeal son of Joseph;

 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;

 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, son of Rafu;

 from the tribe of Zebulun, Gadiel son of Sodi;

 from the tribe of Joseph, that is, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gadi, son of Sushi;

 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemali;

 of the tribe of Asher, Shetur, son of Michael;

 of the tribe of Naphtali, Nabi, son of Vofsi;

 from the tribe of Gad, Guel, son of Machi.

 These are the names of the men that Moses sent on a mission to reconnoitre the territory. (To Hosea, son of Nun, Moses gave the name Joshua.)

 When Moses sent them to observe Canaan, he said: “Go up through the Negev and continue into the mountainous region.

 See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, whether they are many or few;

 whether the land they inhabit is good or bad; whether the cities in which they live are unwalled or fortified cities;

 whether the soil is fertile or poor; whether there is a forest there or not. Be brave! Bring some fruits from the land.” It was time for the grape harvest to begin.

 They went up and surveyed the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, toward Lebo-hamath.

 They went up from the Negev and arrived at Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan, in Egypt.)

 When they reached the valley of Eshcol, they cut a branch from which a single bunch of grapes hung. Two of them carried the bunch, hanging on a stick. They also harvested pomegranates and figs.

 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the bunch of grapes that the Israelites cut there.

 After forty days they returned from the reconnaissance mission of that land.

 They then returned to Moses and Aaron and the entire community of Israel at Kadesh in the wilderness of Paran, where they reported to them and the entire community of Israel, and showed them the fruits of the land.

 And they gave this report to Moses: “We have entered the land to which you sent us, where it flows with milk and honey! Here are some of its fruits.

 But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We also saw descendants of Anak.

 The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites live in the mountainous region; The Canaanites live by the sea and by the Jordan.”

 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up and take possession of the land. It is certain that we will win! “

 But the men who had gone with him said, “We cannot attack those people; is stronger than us.”

 And they spread a negative report among the Israelites about that land. They said: “The land we went on a reconnaissance mission devours those who live in it. All the ones we saw are of great stature.

 We also saw the giants, the descendants of Anak, before whom we and them looked like grasshoppers.”
