Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt insulted their master, the king of Egypt.

Pharaoh was angry with the two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,

and ordered them to be arrested in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was.

The captain of the guard left them in the care of José, who served them. After a certain time,

The cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were in prison, dreamed. Each had a dream, both on the same night, and each dream had its own interpretation.

When José went to see them the next morning, he noticed that they were dejected.

That's why he asked Pharaoh's officials who were also imprisoned in his master's house: “Why do you look sad today? “

They replied: “We had dreams, but there is no one to interpret them.” Joseph said to them, “Are not interpretations from God? Tell me your dreams.”

Then the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream: “In my dream I saw a vine before me,

with three branches. It budded, blossomed, and bore grapes that ripened in clusters.

Pharaoh's cup was in my hand. I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and gave it into his hand.”

Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation: The three branches are three days.

Within three days Pharaoh will exalt him and restore him to his position; and you will pour the cup into his hand, as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.

When everything is going well with you, remember me and be kind to me; tell Pharaoh about me and take me out of this prison,

for I was brought by force from the land of the Hebrews, and here too I did nothing to be thrown into this dungeon.”

When the chief baker heard this favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph: “I also had a dream: On my head there were three baskets of white bread.

In the top basket there were all kinds of bread and sweets that Pharaoh likes, but the birds came to eat from the basket that I had on my head.”

And Joseph said, “This is the interpretation: The three baskets are three days.

Within three days Pharaoh will behead him and hang him on a tree. And the birds will eat their flesh.”

Three days later it was Pharaoh's birthday, and he gave a banquet to all his advisors. In their presence he reintroduced the chief butler and the chief baker:

He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he was once again the one who served Pharaoh's cup,

but he ordered the chief baker to be hanged, as Joseph had told them in his interpretation.

The chief butler, however, did not remember Joseph; on the contrary, he forgot about him.
