The Lord also said to Moses and Aaron:

“This is a requirement of the law that the Lord has commanded: Command the Israelites to bring a red heifer, without blemish or blemish, on which a yoke has never been placed.

You will give it to Eleazar the priest; she will be taken outside the camp and sacrificed in his presence.

Then the priest Eleazar will take some of the blood with his finger and sprinkle it seven times, towards the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

In his presence the heifer will be burned: the hide, the flesh, the blood and the excrement.

The priest will take a piece of cedar wood, hyssop and red wool and throw them into the fire that is burning the heifer.

After that the priest will wash his clothes and bathe in water. Then you can enter the camp, but you will be unclean until evening.

Whoever burns the heifer will also wash his clothes and bathe in water, and he will also be unclean until evening.

“A ceremonially pure man will collect the ashes of the heifer and place them in a pure place outside the camp. They will be kept by the community of Israel for use in the water of purification, for the purification of sins.

Whoever collects the ashes of the heifer will also wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening. This is a perpetual decree for both Israelites and resident foreigners.

“Whoever touches a human corpse will be unclean for seven days.

You must purify yourself with this water on the third and seventh days; then it will be pure. But if you do not purify yourself on the third and seventh day, you will not be clean.

Whoever touches a human corpse and does not purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the Lord and will be eliminated from Israel. He will be unclean because the water of purification was not poured on him; his impurity remains upon him.

“This is the law that applies when someone dies in a tent: whoever enters the tent and whoever is in it will be unclean seven days,

and any container that is not tightly closed will be unclean.

“Whoever is in the field and touches someone who was killed with the sword, or who died naturally, or a human bone, or a tomb, will be unclean for seven days.

“For the unclean person, they will place some of the ashes of the purification offering in a jar and pour water from the spring over it.

Then a ceremonially pure man will take hyssop, dip it in water and sprinkle it on the tent, on all the utensils and on all the people who were there. He will also sprinkle it on anyone who has touched a human bone, or a tomb, or someone who has been killed or died naturally.

He who is clean will sprinkle it on the unclean person on the third and seventh day, and on the seventh day he must purify him. He who is being purified will wash his clothes and bathe in water, and that afternoon he will be clean.

But if anyone who is unclean does not purify himself, he will be eliminated from the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of purification was not sprinkled on him, and he is unclean.

This is a perpetual decree for them. “The man who sprinkles the water of purification will also wash his clothes, and everyone who touches the water of purification will be unclean until evening.

Anything that anyone who is unclean touches will become unclean, and anyone who touches it will be unclean until evening.”
