The Lord said to Moses and Aaron:

“Say to the Israelites: Of all the animals that live on earth, these are the ones you may eat:

Any animal that has a cloven hoof divided into two nails, and that chews the cud.

“You will not be able to eat those that only chew the cud or those that only have cloven hooves. The camel, although it chews its cud, does not have a cloven hoof; consider him unclean.

The rabbit, although it chews its cud, does not have a cloven hoof; it is unclean for you.

The hare, although it chews the cud, does not have a cloven hoof; consider it impure.

And the pig, although its hoof is cloven and divided into two claws, does not chew the cud; consider him unclean.

You shall not eat the flesh of these animals nor touch their carcasses; consider them unclean.

“Of all the creatures that live in the waters of the sea and rivers, you will be able to eat all those that have fins and scales.

But all creatures that live in the seas or rivers, which do not have fins and scales, whether among all the small creatures that inhabit the waters or among all the other animals in the waters, will be forbidden to you.

Therefore, they will not be able to eat their flesh and will consider their corpses unclean.

Everything that lives in the water and does not have fins and scales will be forbidden to you.

“These are the birds that you will consider unclean, that you will not be able to eat because they are prohibited: the eagle, the vulture, the sea eagle,

 the kite, the hawk,

 any kind of crow,

the great horned owl, the short-eared owl, the long-eared owl, any species of hawk,

the owl, the fishing owl and the great owl,

the snowy owl, the desert owl, the vulture,

the stork, any type of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.

“All small creatures that swarm, that have wings, but that move along the ground will be forbidden to you.

Among these, however, you will be able to eat those that have articulated legs to jump on the ground.

From these you will be able to eat different types of grasshoppers.

But they will consider all other creatures that swarm, that have wings and that move along the ground to be unclean.

“Through them you will become unclean; Anyone who touches their carcasses will be unclean until evening.

Whoever carries the corpse of one of them must wash his clothes and be unclean until evening.

“Every animal with a hoof that is not divided into two claws or that does not chew the cud is unclean to you; whoever touches any of them will be unclean.

All four-footed animals that walk on the soles of their feet are unclean to you; Everyone who touches their carcasses will be unclean until evening.

Whoever carries the corpse of one of them must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening. They are unclean to you.

“Of the animals that move close to the ground, these you will consider unclean: the weasel, the rat, any kind of large lizard,

the gecko, the spotted lizard, the lizard, the sand lizard and the chameleon.

Of all those who move close to the ground, these you will consider unclean. Whoever touches them after they are dead will be unclean until evening.

And everything on which one of them falls after death, whatever its use, will become unclean, whether it is an object made of wood, cloth, leather or sackcloth. It must be put in water and it will be unclean until evening, and then it will be pure.

If one of them falls into a clay jar, everything in it will become unclean, and you will break the jar.

Any food on which this water falls will be unclean, and any drink that is inside the vessel will be unclean.

Everything on which the corpse of one of these animals falls will be unclean; if it is an oven or a clay stove you will break it. They are unclean, and you will consider them as such.

But if it falls into a fountain or cistern where water is collected, it remains pure; but whoever touches the corpse will be unclean.

 If a corpse falls on any seed to be planted, it remains pure;

but if water has been poured on the seed, you will consider it unclean.

“When an animal that you are permitted to eat dies, whoever touches its corpse will be unclean until evening.

Whoever eats the meat of the dead animal will have to wash his clothes and will be unclean until evening. Whoever carries the animal's corpse will have to wash his clothes, and will be unclean until afternoon.

“Any animal that moves close to the ground will be forbidden to them and may not be eaten.

You may not eat any animal that moves close to the ground, whether it crawls on its belly or walks on all fours or with the help of many feet; they are forbidden to them.

Do not contaminate yourself with any of these animals. Do not become unclean with them or let them make you unclean.

For I am your Lord God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not become unclean with any animal that moves close to the ground.

I am the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God; therefore, be holy, because I am holy.

“This is the regulation regarding animals, birds, all living beings that move in water and all animals that move close to the ground.

You will make a separation between the unclean and the clean, between animals that can be eaten and those that cannot be eaten.”
