And God spoke to Israel through a night vision: “Jacob! Jacob! “Here I am,” he replied.

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.

I myself will go down to Egypt with you and will certainly bring you back. And the hand of Joseph will close his eyes. “

So Jacob departed from Beersheba. The children of Israel took their father Jacob, his sons and their wives in the chariots that Pharaoh had sent.

Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to find out how to go to Goshen. When they arrived there,

Joseph, with his chariot ready, left for Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as he saw him, he ran to hug him and, hugging him, cried for a long time.

Israel said to Joseph, “Now I can die, because I have seen your face and I know that you are still alive.”

Then Joseph said to his brothers and all his father's family, “I am going to go and tell Pharaoh that my brothers and all my father's family, who lived in Canaan, have come here.

I will say that the men are shepherds, they take care of flocks, and they brought with them their sheep, their oxen and everything that belongs to them.

When Pharaoh sends for them and asks: 'What do you work at? ',

answer him like this: 'Your servants raised flocks from a young age, as our ancestors did.' In this way they will be allowed to live in the region of Goshen, since all shepherds are despised by the Egyptians.”
