“Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him, saying:

Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.

Now there were seven brothers. The first one took a wife and died without leaving any children. The second one also took her and died, and he also left no children. The third one did the same.

And the seven of them took her, but they left no children. Finally, after all of them, the woman also died.

In the resurrection, therefore, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.

Jesus answered them, “Are you not mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?”

For when they rise from the dead, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be like the angels in heaven.

And concerning the dead who are to rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?

Now, God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Therefore you are greatly mistaken.“.
