Gospel of the Day – John 7:40-53

“Hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”

Others said: “He is the Christ.” Still others asked: “How can the Christ come from Galilee?

Doesn't the Scripture say that the Christ will come from the descendants of David, from the city of Bethlehem, where David lived? “

So the people were divided because of Jesus. Some wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.

Finally, the temple guards returned to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn't you bring him? “

“No one has ever spoken the way this man does,” the guards declared.

“Could it be that you were also deceived? “, asked the Pharisees.

“Did any of the authorities or the Pharisees believe in him?
No! But this rabble that understands nothing about the law is cursed.”

Nicodemus, one of them, who had previously been looking for Jesus, asked them:

“Does our law condemn someone without first listening to them to find out what they are doing? “

They replied, “Are you also from Galilee? Check, and you will discover that no prophet emerges from Galilee.”
Then everyone went to their own home
“.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
