When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not resort to magic as on other occasions, but turned his face toward the desert.

Then he saw Israel encamped, tribe by tribe; and the Spirit of God came upon him,

and he uttered this oracle: “The word of Balaam the son of Beor, the word of him whose eyes see clearly,

word of him who hears the words of God, of him who sees the vision that comes from the Almighty, of him who falls prostrate and sees clearly:

“How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!

Like valleys they stretch out, like gardens that border rivers, like aloes planted by the Lord, like cedars by the waters.

Your water reservoirs will overflow; your crops will be well irrigated. “Your king will be greater than Agag; your kingdom will be exalted.

God is bringing them out of Egypt; they have the strength of wild ox. They devour enemy nations and shatter their bones; with their arrows they pierce them.

Like the lion and the lioness they bend down and lie down, who will dare wake them? Blessed be those who bless you, and cursed be those who curse you! “

Then Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and, clapping his hands, he said: “I called you to curse my enemies, but you have already blessed them three times!

Now, escape to your home! I said I would give him a generous reward, but the Lord prevented him from receiving it.”

But Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not say to the messengers you sent me:

Even if Balak gave me his palace full of silver and gold, could I not do anything of my own free will, good or bad, that goes beyond the command of the Lord, and that I should only say what the Lord says?

Now I am returning to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in the days to come.” The Fourth Oracle of Balaam

Then he uttered this oracle of his: “The word of Balaam, the son of Beor, the word of him whose eyes see clearly,

of him who hears the words of God, who possesses the knowledge of the Most High, of him who sees the vision that comes from the Almighty, of him who falls prostrate, and sees clearly:

I see it, but not now; I see him, but not up close. A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will rise from Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab and the skulls of all Seth's descendants.

Edom will be dominated; Seir, their enemy, will also be dominated, but Israel will be strengthened.

From Jacob the government will come; he will destroy the survivors of the cities.”

Balaam saw Amalek and pronounced this oracle: “Amalek was first among the nations, but his end will be destruction.”

 Then he saw the Kenites and spoke this oracle: “Your dwelling is safe, your nest is fixed in the rock;

However, you Kenites will be destroyed when Assur takes you captive.”

Finally he pronounced this oracle: “Ah, who can live when God does this?

Ships will come from the coast of Chittim and subdue Assur and Heber, but their end will also be destruction.”

Then Balaam got up and went home, and Balak went his way.
