Numbers 20 – Verses from Numbers 20 from the book of Numbers in the Bible.

In the first month the entire community of Israel arrived in the desert of Zin and stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there and was buried.

There was no water for the community, and the people united against Moses and Aaron.

They argued with Moses and said, “If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the Lord!

Why have you brought the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, so that we and our flocks would die here?

Why did you take us out of Egypt and bring us to this terrible place? Here there is no cereal, no figs, no grapes, no pomegranates, no water to drink! “

Moses and Aaron went out from before the assembly to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and fell face down, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them.

And the Lord said to Moses:

“Take the rod, and with your brother Aaron gather the community and speak to that rock in front of it, and it will pour out water. You will draw water from the rock for the community and the flocks to drink.”

Then Moses took the rod that was before the Lord, as he had commanded him.

Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said, “Listen, rebels, shall we have to draw water from this rock and give it to you? “

Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with the stick. Water gushed out, and the community and the flocks drank.

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not trusted me to honor my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not lead this community into the land I am giving you.”

These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites argued with the Lord and where he manifested his holiness among them.

From Kadesh, Moses sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying: “This is what your brother Israel says: You know all the troubles that have come upon us.

Our ancestors went down to Egypt, and we lived there for many years. The Egyptians, however, mistreated us, as well as them,

but when we cried out to the Lord, he heard our cry, sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. “Now we are in Kadesh, a city on the border of your territory.

Let us cross your land. We will not pass through any plantation or vineyard, nor will we drink water from any well. We will pass along the king's highway and will not turn to the right or to the left until we have crossed your territory.”

But Edom replied, “You cannot pass this way; if they try, we will attack them with the sword.”

And the Israelites said, “We will take the high road; If we and our flocks drink your water, we will pay for it. We just want to cross on foot, and nothing else.”

But Edom insisted: “You will not be able to cross.” Then Edom attacked them with a large and powerful army.

Because Edom refused to let them cross its territory, Israel turned away from it.

The entire Israelite community left Kadesh and arrived at Mount Hor.

On that mountain, near the border of Edom, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron:

“Aaron will be reunited with his ancestors. You will not enter the land that I am giving to the Israelites, because you two rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.

Take Aaron and his son Eleazar to the top of Mount Hor.

Take off Aaron's clothes and put them on his son Eleazar, for Aaron will be reunited with his ancestors; he will die there.”

Moses did as the Lord commanded; They climbed Mount Hor in full view of the entire community.

Moses took off Aaron's clothes and put them on his son Eleazar. And Aaron died on top of the mountain. After this, Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain,

and when the whole community heard that Aaron had died, the entire nation of Israel mourned for him for thirty days.
