“Ask the Israelites to bring twelve sticks, one from each leader of the tribes. Write each leader's name on their stick.

On the stick of Levi write the name of Aaron, for there must be a stick for each head of the tribes.

Place them in the Tent of Meeting, in front of the Ark of the Tablets of the Covenant, where I meet with you.

The rod of the one I choose will flourish, and I will get rid of this constant complaint of the Israelites against you.”

So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve rods, one from each leader of the tribes, and Aaron's rod was among them.

Moses laid the staves before the Lord in the tent that keeps the tablets of the covenant.

The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron's rod, which represented the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, producing buds and flowers, as well as ripe almonds.

Then Moses removed all the rods from the presence of the Lord and brought them to all the Israelites. They turned the sticks, and each leader took his own.

The Lord said to Moses, “Put Aaron’s rod back in front of the ark of the tablets of the covenant, to be kept as a warning to the rebels. This will put an end to their complaint against me, so that they will not die.”

Moses did as the Lord commanded him.

The Israelites said to Moses, “We will die! We are lost, we are all lost!

Everyone who approaches the sanctuary of the Lord will die. Are we all going to die? “
