and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Seeing that it was beautiful, she hid it for three months.

When he could no longer hide it, he took a basket made of reeds and sealed it with tar and bitumen. He placed the boy in it and left the basket among the reeds, on the bank of the Nile.

The boy's sister watched from afar to see what would happen to him.

Pharaoh's daughter had gone down to the Nile to bathe. Meanwhile, her servants walked along the riverbank. Then she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to fetch it.

When he opened it he saw a baby crying. He felt sorry for him and said: “This boy is from the Hebrews”.

Then the boy's sister approached and asked Pharaoh's daughter: “Do you want me to go and call a Hebrew woman to breastfeed and raise the boy? “

“I want it,” she replied. And the girl went to call the boy's mother.

Then Pharaoh's daughter said to the woman, "Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay you for it." The woman took the boy and breastfed him.

When the boy grew up, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter, who adopted him and named him Moses, saying: “Because I drew him out of the water.”

One day, when Moses was already an adult, he went to the place where his Hebrew brothers were and discovered how heavy the work they were doing was. He also saw an Egyptian beating one of the Hebrews.

He looked everywhere and, seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He then asked the attacker: “Why are you beating your partner? “

The man replied, “Who made you leader and judge over us? Do you want to kill me like you killed the Egyptian? ” Moses was afraid and thought: “Surely everything has already been discovered! “

When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses, but he fled and went to live in the land of Midian. There he sat down on the edge of a well.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They went to get water to fill the troughs and water their father's flock.

Some shepherds approached and began to drive them away; Moses, however, came to their aid and gave water to the flock.

When the girls returned to their father Reuel, he asked them: “Why are you back so early today? “

They replied: “An Egyptian defended us from the shepherds and even drew water from the well for us and gave water to the flock.”

"Where is he? “, the father asked them. “Why did they leave him there? Invite him to eat with us. “

Moses accepted and also agreed to live in that man’s house; He gave him his daughter Zipporah as his wife.

She gave birth to a boy, whom Moses named Gershon, saying, “I am an immigrant in a foreign land.”

A long time later, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned and cried out under slavery; and their cry went up to God.

God heard their lament and remembered the covenant he had made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

God looked at the Israelites and saw what their situation was.
