Gospel of the Day – Matthew 9:1-8

“And when he got into the boat, he passed over to the other side, and came to his city. And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed.

And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic: Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you.

And behold, some of the scribes said among themselves, He blasphemes. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?

Well, which is easier? say: Your sins are forgiven you; or say: Get up and walk?

Now that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins (he then said to the paralytic): Get up, take up your bed, and go to your house.

And getting up, he went to his house. And when the multitude saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
