Gospel of the Day – Matthew 6:24-34

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much more value than they?

And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;

And I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

For if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
