Gospel of the Day – Matthew 18:21-35

“Então Pedro, aproximando-se dele, disse: Senhor, até quantas vezes pecará meu irmão contra mim, e eu lhe perdoarei? Até sete?
Jesus lhe disse: Não te digo que até sete; mas, até setenta vezes sete.

Therefore the kingdom of heaven can be compared to a certain king who wanted to reckon with his servants; And as he began to count, there was brought before him one who owed him ten thousand talents;

And when he had nothing to pay, his master ordered him and his wife and children to be sold, along with everything he had, so that the debt could be paid.

Then that servant, prostrating himself, revered him, saying: Lord, be generous to me, and I will pay you everything. Then the Lord of that servant, moved with intimate compassion, released him and forgave him the debt.

But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants, who owed him a hundred pieces of money, and, taking hold of him, he choked him, saying: Pay me what you owe me.

Then his companion, falling at his feet, begged him, saying: Be generous to me, and I will pay you everything.
However, he didn't want to, but he went to lock him up in prison until he paid the debt.

So when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were very sad, and went and told their master all that had happened.
Então o seu senhor, chamando-o à sua presença, disse-lhe:

Servo malvado, perdoei-te toda aquela dívida, porque me suplicaste.
Não devias tu, igualmente, ter compaixão do teu companheiro, como eu também tive misericórdia de ti?

E, indignado, o seu senhor o entregou aos atormentadores, até que pagasse tudo o que lhe devia. Assim vos fará, também, meu Pai celestial, se do coração não perdoardes, cada um a seu irmão, as suas ofensas“.
