And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

But he said to them, Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those with him?

How did he enter the house of God, and eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath, and are without guilt? For I tell you, one greater than the temple is here.

But if you knew what it means: I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not condemn the innocent. Because the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
