Others said: “He is the Christ.” Still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee?

Does not Scripture say that the Christ will come from the descendants of David, from the town of Bethlehem, where David lived?

So the people were divided because of Jesus. Some wanted to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him.

Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

“No one has ever spoken the way this man speaks,” the guards declared.

“Have you also been deceived?” the Pharisees asked.

“Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?
No! But this rabble that understands nothing about the law is cursed.”

Nicodemus, one of them, who had previously sought Jesus, asked them:

“Does our law condemn someone without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?”

They answered, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and you will find that no prophet arises from Galilee.”
Then everyone went to their own house.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
