Gospel of the Day – John 5:17-30

“Jesus said to them, “My Father continues to work to this day, and I also am working.”

For this reason, the Jews even more wanted to kill him, as not only was he violating the Sabbath, but he was also even saying that God was his own Father, equating himself with God.

Jesus gave them this answer: “Truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; He can only do what he sees the Father doing, because what the Father does, the Son also does.

For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does. Yes, to your admiration, he will show you even greater works than these. For, in the same way that the Father raises the dead and gives them life, the Son also gives life to whomever he wants to give it.

Furthermore, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, so that everyone may honor the Son as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son also does not honor the Father who sent him. “I assure you:

Whoever hears my word and believes in him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has passed from death to life.

I tell you that the hour is coming, and has now come, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear it will live.

For just as the Father has life in himself, he granted the Son to have life in himself. And he gave him authority to judge, because he is the Son of man.

“Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
and they will go out; Those who have done good will rise to life, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.

For myself, I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is fair, for I seek not to please myself, but him who sent me“.
