"After this there was a feast among the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in Jerusalem there is a pool, called in Hebrew Bethesda, which has five porches.

In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame and withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For at a certain time an angel went down into the pool and stirred up the water; and the first one who went down into it, after the moving of the water, was healed of whatever infirmity he had.

There was a man there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. And when Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in this state for a long time, he said to him: Do you want to be made whole?

The sick man answered him: Sir, I have no man who, when the water is stirred, puts me into the pool; but as I go, another goes down before me.

Jesus said to him: Arise, take up your bed, and walk.
Then the man was made whole, and he took up his bed and walked. And that day was the Sabbath. Then the Jews said to the man who had been healed:

It's the Sabbath, you can't take the bed. He answered them: He who healed me said himself, 'Take up your bed and walk.
They asked him:

Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your bed and walk?
The one who had been healed didn't know who he was, because Jesus had gone away because there was a large crowd in that place.

Then Jesus met him in the temple and said to him: Behold, you are now healthy; sin no more, lest something worse befall you.
The man went and told the Jews that Jesus was the one who had healed him.

For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and tried to kill him because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.“.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
