Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you devour the houses of widows, under the pretext of prolonged prayers; therefore you will suffer stricter judgment.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you go through sea and land to make a proselyte; and after you have done it, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
Woe to you, blind drivers! for ye say, Whosoever sweareth by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.
Foolish and blind! For which is greater: the gold, or the temple, which sanctifies the gold?

And he who swears by the altar is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering that is on the altar, he is the debtor.
Foolish and blind! For which is greater: the offering, or the altar, which sanctifies the offering?
Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and everything that is on it;
And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells therein;
And whoever swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it“.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day
As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
