Gospel of the Day – Matthew 19:3-12

“Then the Pharisees came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?

Adverts

But he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he that made them in the beginning male and female made them,

And he said, Shall a man therefore leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife, and they shall become one flesh?

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate.

They said to him: Then why did Moses command him to give her a bill of divorce, and to put her away?

Adverts

He said to them: Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives; But at first it wasn't like that.

But I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, not because of fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries the divorced woman also commits adultery.

His disciples said to him: If this is the condition of a man with his wife, it is not advisable to marry.

But he said to them: Not everyone can receive this word, but only those to whom it has been given.

Porque há eunucos que assim nasceram do ventre da mãe; e há eunucos que foram castrados pelos homens; e há eunucos que se castraram a si mesmos, por causa do reino dos céus. Quem pode receber isto, receba-o.

Mateus 19:3-12

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
