Gospel of the Day – Matthew 18:1-10

“At that very hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

And Jesus called a child to him, and set him in the midst of them,
And he said:

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Woe to the world because of scandals! For it must needs be that scandals come, but woe to that man by whom the scandal comes!

Therefore if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire.

And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be thrown into hell fire.

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones: for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father which is in heaven..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
