For Herod had arrested John, and had bound him and shut him up in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife;

For John had said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to possess her. And, wanting to kill him, he feared the people; because they had him as a prophet.

But when Herod's birthday was being celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before him, and pleased Herod.

That's why he promised, with an oath, to give him everything he asked;
And she, instructed beforehand by her mother, said: Give me here, on a plate, the head of John the Baptist.

And the king was distressed, but because of the oath and those who were at the table with him, he ordered it to be given to him. And he had João beheaded in prison.

And his head was brought on a plate, and given to the young woman, and she took it to her mother.
And his disciples came and took the body and buried it; and they went to announce it to Jesus

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
