Gospel of the Day – Matthew 13:1-13

“That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.
Such a large crowd gathered around him that he had to get into a boat and sit in it, while all the people remained on the shore.

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow, and as he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.

Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered away because they had no root.

Other part fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
Other fell on good ground and produced a crop, a hundredfold, sixtyfold, and thirtyfold.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

He replied, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but not to them.

To everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance. From everyone who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

For this reason I speak to them in parables: 'For seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear or understand.'

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
