Gospel of the Day – Mark 9:1-13

“And he said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.

And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them:

And his clothes became dazzling white, as white as snow, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.

And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
And Peter answered and said to Jesus,

Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. For he did not know what to say, for they were amazed.

And a cloud came down and overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”

And when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with them.

And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what they had seen, until the Son of man had risen from the dead.

And they kept the matter among themselves, questioning one another what this might mean, rising from the dead.

And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

And he answered and said unto them, Elias truly cometh first, and will restore all things: and as it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written about him.“.
