“And when he taught them, he said to them: Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and salute in the streets,
And the first seats in the synagogues, and the first seats at the suppers;

Who devour widows' houses, and this under the pretext of long prayers. These will receive more serious condemnation.

And as Jesus sat in front of the treasure chest, he watched the way the crowd threw the money into the treasure chest; and many rich people slept a lot.

But a poor widow came and threw in two small coins, which were worth half a penny.

And he called his disciples, and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, This poor widow hath put in more than all they that put into the treasure chest;

For everyone there put in what they had left over, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything she had, all her living..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
