Gospel of the Day – Luke 7:1-10

“When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people, he entered Capernaum.

There was a centurion's servant, whom his master greatly esteemed, sick and near death.

He heard about Jesus and sent some religious leaders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.

They came to Jesus and begged him earnestly, “This man deserves to have you do this for him, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”

Jesus went with them. He was already near the house when the centurion sent friends to say to Jesus, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.

Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it.”

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him and, turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel.”

Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
