Gospel of the Day – Luke 16:1-8

“Jesus said to his disciples: “A rich man’s manager was accused of wasting his property.
Then he called him and asked him:

'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, because you cannot continue to be the steward.'

“The manager said to himself, ‘My master is sending me away. What shall I do? I have no strength to dig, and I am ashamed to beg…

I already know what I'm going to do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their homes.'

“Then he called in each of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master? ’
'A hundred jars of oil,' he replied.

Adverts

“The steward said to him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly and write fifty.' “Then he asked the second,

'And you, how much do you owe? ' 'A hundred barrels of wheat,' he replied. 'He said to him, 'Take your bill and write down eighty.'

“The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with one another than the children of light.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
