Gospel of the Day – Luke 16:1-13

“And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and this was accused before him of wasting his property.

And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? Give an account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be my steward.

And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing my master take away the stewardship from me? Dig, I can't; I'm ashamed of begging.

I know what I must do, so that, when I am dispossessed of the stewardship, they will welcome me into their homes.

And calling each of his master's debtors to him, he said to the first: How much do you owe my master?

And he answered: A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take up thy bond, and when thou hast sat down, write fifty.

Then he said to another: And you, how much do you owe? And he answered, One hundred bushels of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and write eighty.
And that lord praised the unjust steward for having acted prudently, because the children of this world are more prudent in their generation than the children of light.

And I say to you: Make friends with the riches of unrighteousness; so that when you lack these, they may receive you into eternal tabernacles.

Whoever is faithful in the least is also faithful in much; whoever is unjust in the least is also unjust in the most.

For if you have not been faithful in unjust riches, who will trust you with true riches?

And if you have not been faithful in what belongs to others, who will give you what is yours?

No servant can serve two masters; because, either you will hate one and love the other, or you will come to one and despise the other.

You cannot serve God and Mammon.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
