“And all the tax collectors and sinners drew near to him for to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

What man among you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, will not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the lost one until he finds it?
And when he found it, he placed it on his shoulders, rejoicing;
And when he comes home, he summons his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep.
I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need repentance.
Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light the lamp, and sweep the house, and search diligently until she finds it?

And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me: for I have found the piece of silver which I lost. Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
And he said, A certain man had two sons;
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. And he divided his living among them.
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
And when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in need. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.
And he longed to fill his stomach with the acorns that the pigs were eating, and no one gave him anything.
And when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and here I perish with hunger!
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight; I am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
And he arose, and came to his father: and when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion; and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
And bring the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to rejoice.
Now his elder son was in the field; and when he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked him what this meant.
And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. But he was angry, and would not go in.
And his father came out, and intreated him. And he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years I have served thee, and at no time transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends:
But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him.
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine:
But it was meet that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.“.
Luke 15:1-32
The Importance of the Gospel of the Day
As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
