Gospel of the Day – Luke 15:1-10

“And all the tax collectors and sinners came to him to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

And he proposed this parable to them, saying:
What man among you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, will not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the lost one until he finds it?

And when he found it, he placed it on his shoulders, rejoicing;
And when he comes home, he summons his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep.

I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need repentance.

Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light the lamp, and sweep the house, and search diligently until she finds it?

And when she finds it, she summons her friends and neighbors, saying: Rejoice with me, because I have found the lost drachma.

Thus I tell you that there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
