Gospel of the Day – Luke 11:42-46

“But woe to you, Pharisees! For you pay tithes of mint and rue and all kinds of herbs, and neglect justice and the love of God. These things ought to have been done, and not to have neglected the others.

Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like tombs that do not appear, and the men who walk over them do not know it.

And one of the lawyers answered and said unto him, Master, when thou sayest this, thou reproachest us also. And he said unto him,

Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers..

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
