Gospel of the Day – John 6:22-40

“The next day, when the crowd that was on the other side of the lake saw that there was only one boat there, except the one in which the disciples had entered,

And that Jesus had not entered that little boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone alone (However, other little boats had arrived from Tiberias, near the place where they ate the bread, after the Lord had given thanks).

When the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they also got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

And finding him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”
Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the signs, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.

They said to him, “What must we do, that we might work the works of God?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.

Then said they unto him, What sign then sheweth thou, that we may see, and believe thee? what doest thou?

Our fathers ate manna in the wilderness, as it is written: He gave them the bread from heaven to eat.

Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

Because the bread of God is the one that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
So they said to him, Lord, always give us this bread.

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye have seen me, and believe not.

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will in no way cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

And this is the will of him who sent me, that of all he has given me I should lose nothing, but raise it up at the last day.

For this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
