Gospel of the Day – John 17:1-11

“Jesus spoke thus, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, so that your Son may also glorify you;

Just as you gave him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you gave him.

And this is eternal life: that they may know you alone as the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

I have glorified you on earth, having completed the work you gave me to do.
And now you, O Father, glorify me with yourself, with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

I manifested your name to the men you gave me out of the world; They were yours, and you gave them to them, and they kept your word.

Now they know that everything you gave me comes from you;
Because I gave them the words that you gave me; and they received them, and have truly known that I came from you, and have believed that you sent me.

I pray for them; I do not pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me, because they are yours.
And all my things are yours, and your things are mine; and in them I am glorified.

And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep in your name those whom you have given me, that they may be one, just as we are.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
