Gospel of the Day – John 1:45-51

“Philip found Nathanael, and said to him: We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and the prophets: Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.

Nathanael said to him: Can anything good come from Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him: Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile.

Nathanael said to him: Where do you know me from? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, I saw thee, while thou wast under the fig tree.

Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, dost thou believe? Greater things than these you will see.

And he said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, From henceforth ye shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
