Gospel of the Day – John 10:11-18

"I am the good shepherd; the good Shepherd gives his life for the sheep.

But the hireling, and he who is not a shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters the sheep.

Now the mercenary flees, because he is a mercenary, and does not take care of the sheep.
I am the good Shepherd, and I know my sheep, and I am known by mine.

Just as the Father knows me, so I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.

I still have other sheep that do not belong to this fold; I must also gather these, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock and one Shepherd.

This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life to take it again.

No one takes it from me, but I give it from myself; I have power to give it, and power to take it again. This commandment I received from my Father.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
