Gospel of the Day – John 16:23-33

“And in that day you will ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

These things I have spoken to you in parables; but the hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in parables, but will tell you plainly about the Father.

In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I will pray the Father for you, for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came forth from God.

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and go to the Father. His disciples said unto him, Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no parable.

Now we know that you know everything and do not need anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God. Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?”

Behold, the time is coming, and it is approaching, when you will be scattered, each one to his own place, and you will leave me alone; but I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

I have told you this, so that in me you may have peace; in the world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
