Gospel of the Day – John 13,21-33,36-38

“After saying this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and declared, “I tell you, one of you will certainly betray me.” His disciples looked at each other, not knowing who he was referring to.

One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining beside him. Simon Peter made signs to this disciple, as if to say: “Ask him who he is referring to.”

Leaning toward Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is this? ”
Jesus replied: “Whoever I give this piece of bread wet on the plate.”

Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. As soon as Judas ate the bread, Satan entered him. “Whatever you are about to do, do quickly,” Jesus said to him.

But no one at the table understood why Jesus told him this.
Since Judas was in charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what he needed for the festival or to give something to the poor.

As soon as he ate the bread, Judas left. And it was night. After Judas left, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.

If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him soon. “My little children, I will be with you just a little longer.

You will look for me, and as I said to the Jews, so now I say to you: Where I go, you cannot go. Simon Peter said to him, Lord, where are you going?

Jesus answered him: Where I go you cannot follow me now, but later you will follow me. Peter said to him, Why cannot I follow you now? For you I will give my life.

Jesus answered him: Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I tell you that the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times.”

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
