Gospel of the Day – Luke 19:12-27

“And he said, A certain noble man went into a far country, to take for himself a kingdom, and to return afterward. And calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them:

Negotiate until I come. But his fellow citizens hated him, and sent ambassadors after him, saying: We do not want this man to reign over us.

And it came to pass, when he returned, after he had taken the kingdom, that he said that those servants to whom he had given the money should be called to him, to find out what each one had gained by trading.

And the first came, saying, Lord, your mina yielded ten minas.
And he said unto him, Well done, good servant: because thou hast been faithful in the least, thou shalt have authority over ten cities.

And the second came, saying, Sir, your mina yielded five minas.
And to him he said also: Be thou also over five cities. And another came, saying:

Lord, here is your mina, which I kept in a handkerchief;
Because I was afraid of you, because you are a rigorous man, taking what you did not lay down, and reaping what you did not sow.

But he said unto him, Bad servant, by thy mouth will I judge thee. You knew that I am a rigorous man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow;

Why didn't you put my money in the bank so that I could come and demand it with interest? And he said to them that were with him, Take away his mina, and give it to him that hath ten minas.

(And they said unto him, Sir, he hath ten minas.)
For I tell you, to everyone who has will be given, but from everyone who does not have, even what they have will be taken away.

And as for those enemies of mine who would not have me reign over them, bring them here, and kill them before me“.
