There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. A beggar named Lazarus was left at his gate, covered in sores;

He longed to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Instead, the dogs came to lick their wounds. “The day came when the beggar died, and the angels took him to Abraham.

The rich man also died and was buried.
In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham in the distance, with Lazarus at his side.

Then he called to him: 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering greatly in this fire'.

“But Abraham answered, 'Son, remember that during your lifetime you received good things, while Lazarus received bad things. Now, however, he is being comforted here and you are in pain.

And furthermore, between you and us there is a great gulf, so that those who wish to pass from our side to yours, or from your side to ours, cannot do so.'

“He answered, 'Then I beseech you, father: send Lazarus to my father's house,

because I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they also do not come to this place of torment.'

“Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them'.
"'No, Father Abraham,' he said, 'but if anyone from the dead came to them, they would repent.'

“Abraham replied: 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced, even if someone rises from the dead.' “.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through believing in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10;17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
