They present an extraordinary promise of strength and protection to those who place themselves at God\u2019s disposal, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable adversity. Not only would he denounce the sins of the people, but he would also face resistance, persecution, and rejection. Verses 18 and 19 come as a word of encouragement and strengthening to the young prophet, preparing him for the challenges that lay ahead. Jeremiah is compared to <strong>\u201ca fortified city\u201d <\/strong>, <strong>\u201can iron column\u201d <\/strong>It is <strong>\u201cbronze walls\u201d <\/strong>. Each of these metaphors carries deep symbolism:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Fortified City <\/strong>: A fortified city was a safe haven in times of war. It represented strength, stability, and protection. By calling Jeremiah a \u201cfortified city,\u201d God is declaring that he will be unshakable in the face of adversity. No matter how great the pressure or opposition, Jeremiah will stand firm because God will sustain him.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Iron Column <\/strong>: Iron is known for its durability and strength. An iron pillar can support great weights without bending. Likewise, Jeremiah will be able to withstand the pressures exerted by corrupt leaders, false prophets, and a rebellious people.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bronze Walls <\/strong>: Bronze was a highly valued metal in ancient times, associated with strength and beauty. Walls made of bronze were virtually indestructible. This image suggests that Jeremiah will be invulnerable to the attacks of his enemies, for God will surround him with His defense.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Furthermore, the verse explicitly mentions the groups against whom Jeremiah will testify: <strong>\u201cthe kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land\u201d <\/strong>. This indicates that opposition will come from all walks of life\u2014from political authorities to religious leaders to the common people. However, Jeremiah need not fear, for God will equip him to face each of these challenges.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Verse 19:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>\u201cThey will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second verse builds on the first by offering an even more specific promise of divine protection.
