\u201cNow when they were in Galilee, Jesus said to them, \u201cThe Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

And they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again. And they were very sad.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

And when they came to Capernaum, those who collected the drachmas came to Peter, and said, Does not your master pay the drachmas?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

He said, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect taxes, or the census? From your children, or from other people's?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Peter said to him: Of others. Jesus said to him: Therefore the children are free.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

But, so that we do not scandalize them, go<\/span><\/strong>Go to the sea, cast the hook, take out the first fish that comes up, and opening its mouth, you will find a fish; take it, and give it for me and for you<\/span><\/strong>\u201c<\/span><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day<\/h2>\n

As Christians, we place a high value on God\u2019s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.<\/p>\n

Matthew 17:22-27 is a short passage, but full of layers. It brings together two things that, at first glance, seem quite different: the second prediction of Jesus' death and resurrection<\/strong> (17:22-23) and a super practical situation about temple tax<\/strong> (17:24-27). But Matthew didn't put this together by chance. He wants to show how the heart of discipleship is, at the same time, cross and daily life<\/strong>Jesus walks towards suffering for love, and, in the midst of it, teaches his followers to deal with politics, money, and conscience in a mature and humble way.<\/p>\n

Let's break it down verse by verse and then draw very real-world applications.<\/p>\n

1) Matthew 17:22-23 \u2014 The second prediction of the Passion: the shock of the cross<\/h2>\n

\u201c"When they were gathered in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again.' And the disciples were filled with sorrow."\u2018<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Matthew says that this happened in Galilee, that is, in the family environment<\/strong> of the disciples. It is not Jerusalem yet. Jesus is \u201cat home\u201d with them, so to speak. This makes the announcement more intimate: He is not speaking in a lecturing tone; it is like someone preparing his friends for impending pain.<\/p>\n

\u201c"The Son of Man will be delivered up"\u201d<\/h3>\n

The term "Son of Man" (often used by Jesus) carries enormous weight. It comes from Daniel 7, where the "Son of Man" is a glorious figure who receives dominion and an eternal kingdom. So, when Jesus calls himself that, He is saying: "I am the promised King." But here He associates this glorious figure with an unexpected phrase: \u201c"It will be delivered into the hands of men."\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

This "being delivered" suggests two things at the same time:<\/p>\n
