Gospel (Mc<\/em>\u00a03,13-19):<\/strong>\u00a0Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve\u2014designating them apostles\u2014that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. These were: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means \u201csons of thunder\u201d), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You know those moments in life when you feel God is calling you to something bigger\u2026 but at the same time, you can't quite explain what it is? It's not necessarily a "call to preach into a microphone" or to do a great mission far away, but a tug on the heart, as if Jesus were saying, "Come closer."\u201c<\/p>\n

The passage of Mark 3:13-19<\/strong> It has exactly that atmosphere. It's short, but it carries immense depth. It's a text that shows Jesus calling ordinary people, forming a group, giving names, making choices, and planting the seeds of something that would change the world. And the most beautiful thing is: It doesn't seem like a distant and cold call.<\/strong>. It sounds like a conversation. It sounds like a personal invitation.<\/p>\n

So today I want to walk with you through this passage as someone who sits beside you and says, \u201cLet\u2019s look at this calmly?\u201d Without haste. Without doubt. Without distrust. Because faith is not a test to prove that you are \u201cgood enough.\u201d Faith is a place of encounter. And this text is about encounter.<\/p>\n

\n

Jesus goes up the mountain... and that's no coincidence.<\/h2>\n

Marcos begins like this:<\/p>\n

Jesus \u201cwent up on the mountain and called to him those he wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Do you see how much that already says? He climbs the mountain. In the Bible, a mountain is almost always a symbol of a place to meet with God<\/strong>, a place of \u201cspiritual height,\u201d a place where important decisions are made. Not because God is only up there, but because the mountain represents this movement of setting aside a time, a space, a heart: \u201cNow I will pay attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

It's as if Jesus were creating an environment where what happens there has a different weight.<\/p>\n

And here's a beautiful lesson for us: God doesn't do things haphazardly.<\/strong> Jesus chooses the mountain as if to say, \u201cThis is important.\u201d And if you are reading this text today, perhaps this is a sign that, in the midst of your ordinary day, Jesus is also creating a \u201cmountain\u201d for you. A place of listening. A place of repositioning.<\/p>\n

And the best part is that the mountain doesn't have to be physical. Sometimes the mountain is that moment when you stop everything for two minutes and say, "Jesus, I'm here."\u201c<\/p>\n

\n

\u201c"He called those whom He wanted": this speaks of love, not merit.<\/h2>\n

Here's a phrase that can warm your heart too much:<\/p>\n

He called those whom He wanted.<\/p>\n

This is very powerful because it dismantles the idea that Jesus only calls the "perfect," the "ready," the "capable," the "flawless." No. The text doesn't say "the most prepared." It doesn't say "the holiest." It says: those whom He wanted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This speaks of sovereignty, yes\u2026 but it speaks mainly of love<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Because when someone chooses you of their own free will, when there's no exchange, when there's no demand behind it\u2026 that's love. And Jesus is like that. He calls because He wants to. He calls because He loves. He calls because He sees things in you that you can't even see yet.<\/p>\n

Whether you've been walking with Jesus for years or are still learning to walk with Him now, this statement is equally valid: Jesus is calling you because He wanted to.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are not in the Kingdom by chance. You are not standing here by coincidence. You are here because the heart of Jesus decided to want you close.<\/p>\n

And that's very reassuring. That's comforting. That's strengthening.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThey came to Him\u201d: when Jesus calls, He also draws.<\/h2>\n

The text goes on to say that the so-called They went to Him.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This seems simple, but it's a precious detail. Because it shows that Jesus' call is not just a command. It's an attraction.<\/p>\n

You know that feeling deep inside: "I need to pray... I need to be with God... I need to come back"? That's not just discipline. Often, it's Jesus gently drawing you back.<\/p>\n

And this is so true that sometimes you can't even explain it. You just feel it.<\/p>\n

This journey toward Him is the act of faith. It doesn't have to be a "gigantic" faith, it doesn't have to be a perfect faith, but it is a faith that takes a step.<\/p>\n

And I'll tell you one thing in all sincerity: Jesus honors small steps.<\/strong>
A sincere step is worth a lot.<\/p>\n

Perhaps your "going to Him" today is:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    resume a simple prayer<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Ask for forgiveness for something that weighs you down.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    to reread the Bible calmly<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    to start again, even when tired<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Trust again, even with scars.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Jesus does not despise this type of movement. On the contrary: He welcomes it.<\/p>\n

    \n

    Jesus forms a group: no one lives their faith alone.<\/h2>\n

    Mark says that Jesus appointed twelve.<\/p>\n

    This already affects us because it's a silent declaration of a spiritual principle:<\/p>\n

    Jesus calls people\u2026 but He also forms fellowship.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Could He have done it all alone? Of course He could. He is God. But He chose to work with people. He chose to walk with a group. He chose to build a community.<\/p>\n

    This is so relevant today that it's almost surprising.<\/p>\n

    Because there are days when we try to live our faith in isolation, in a "just me and God" way, in a "I'll handle it myself" way. And there's a beautiful side to that\u2014yes, there is a secret place with God that is just yours.<\/p>\n

    But there is another equally powerful truth: God heals and strengthens us within the body.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The twelve were not merely \u201cspiritual servants.\u201d They were a family in the making. They were disciples who would learn together, make mistakes together, and grow together.<\/p>\n

    So if you've ever felt out of place, tired of people, disappointed, wanting to get away from it all... I understand. But this passage gently reminds us: Jesus still believes in community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    And He puts you on paths where you learn to love and to be loved.<\/p>\n

    \n

    The first purpose: "that they might be with Him"\u201c<\/h2>\n

    Now comes one of the most beautiful parts of this passage.<\/p>\n

    Jesus called the twelve "so that they might be with Him."\u201c<\/p>\n

    Before any mission. Before any "do". Before any "go". Before any responsibility. The first calling was: Stay with Jesus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This is pure gospel.<\/p>\n

    Because Jesus doesn't call you primarily to produce. Jesus calls you to remain.<\/p>\n

    This changes everything.<\/p>\n

    If you've ever experienced phases where you felt pressured, as if your life with God depended on "yielding," "performing," "getting it right," or "being able to cope"... this verse gives you a hug and says:<\/p>\n

    \u201c"Go back to the beginning. Stay with me."\u201d<\/p>\n

    Faith begins in relationship. It doesn't begin in demanding.<\/p>\n

    And staying with Jesus is not an abstract idea. It's real.<\/p>\n

    Staying with Him means:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      Let the Word nourish you.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      learn to identify His voice<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      to put the heart close<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      to create intimacy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      learn His way of acting<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Let Him deal with what no one sees.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      There's something very personal about that. It's as if Jesus were saying:<\/p>\n

      \u201c"Before you do things for me, let me do things to you."\u201d<\/p>\n

      \n

      The second purpose: \u201cto send them out to preach\u201d<\/h2>\n

      After they are with Him, then comes the sending: to preach.<\/p>\n

      And that's so perfect. Because Jesus doesn't send empty people. He sends people filled with Him.<\/p>\n

      Preaching here doesn't just mean standing on a pulpit. Preaching is communicating the Kingdom. It's being a living sign of God's love.<\/p>\n

      You preach when:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • \n

        choose to forgive<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Do not retaliate against evil.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        lift someone who has fallen.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        He is honest when it would be easier to lie.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        pray for someone in silence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        He speaks of Jesus naturally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Love without advertising love.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        This is the Kingdom.<\/p>\n

        So yes, there is a sending. There is a mission. God has a purpose. But notice the order:<\/p>\n

        First presence, then mission.<\/strong>
        First intimacy, then service.<\/p>\n

        And when we respect this order, faith doesn't weigh us down. It flows.<\/p>\n

        \n

        Spiritual authority: "casting out demons"\u201c<\/h2>\n

        The text also says that Jesus gave authority to cast out demons.<\/p>\n

        This shows that the Kingdom of God is not just "a pretty philosophy." It is real power. It is light conquering darkness. It is God invading human history.<\/p>\n

        And I know that this subject can sometimes scare some people, but here I want to address it in a clear and safe way:<\/p>\n

        Jesus does not call the disciples to fear. He calls them to victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Authority comes from Him. It is not based on human strength. It is not based on a person's charisma. It is not based on "formulas".<\/p>\n

        It is the authority of Christ.<\/p>\n

        And this is very important on our journey, because there are days when the spiritual battle seems to be happening inside us:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • \n

          heavy thoughts<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          persistent guilt<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          repeated temptation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          emotional oppression<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          discouragement without apparent reason<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          paralyzing fear<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          But the good news is that Jesus remains the same.<\/p>\n

          And if He calls, He also empowers.<\/p>\n

          You are not alone. You are not unprotected. You are not abandoned in the midst of the struggles.<\/p>\n

          \n

          Jesus calls you by name\u2026 and that is extremely intimate.<\/h2>\n

          Mark begins to list the twelve. And he mentions names: Simon, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (another one), Thaddeus, Simon, Judas.<\/p>\n

          This may seem like just a "list," but it's not.<\/p>\n

          In the Bible, names matter. A name is identity. A name is history. A name is purpose.<\/p>\n

          And when the Gospel records the names, it is saying: God doesn't work with numbers. He works with people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Jesus doesn't call "a group." He calls specific people.<\/p>\n

          If that's true for them, it's true for you.<\/p>\n

          Jesus knows you. He not only knows your name, but He knows your heart, He knows your journey, He knows your scars.<\/p>\n

          There's something about you that nobody notices... and Jesus sees everything.
          And He doesn't turn away because of that. He draws closer.<\/p>\n

          \n

          \u201cHe named him Boanerges\u201d: God also redefines who we are.<\/h2>\n

          Jesus calls James and John Boanerges, "sons of thunder".<\/p>\n

          Imagine this. He looks at those two and identifies something in them: intensity, perhaps impulsiveness, brute force, a striking personality.<\/p>\n

          But at the same time, throughout history, we see how Jesus shapes these characteristics. He doesn't erase the personality. He transforms it.<\/p>\n

          This is wonderful because it shows that Jesus doesn't call you to erase you. He calls you to refine you.<\/p>\n

          Maybe you're intense. Maybe you're emotional. Maybe you're anxious. Maybe you're very rational. Maybe you're explosive. Maybe you're shy. Maybe you're full of questions.<\/p>\n

          Jesus knows. And He doesn't regret calling you.<\/p>\n

          He works with the material you have \u2014 and makes something beautiful out of it.<\/p>\n

          \n

          And Judas? Yes\u2026 Judas is also on the list.<\/h2>\n

          The passage ends by mentioning Judas Iscariot, "the one who later betrayed him.".<\/p>\n

          And that always gives you a pang in your chest, doesn't it?<\/p>\n

          But even this teaches us something profound: Jesus knew he would be betrayed, and yet he walked in love.<\/p>\n

          This is not weakness. This is strength.<\/p>\n

          Because the love of Jesus is not naive. It is conscious. He loves knowingly. He gives himself knowingly. He remains steadfast knowingly.<\/p>\n

          And I don't want you to read this with sadness, as if evil has won. On the contrary. Jesus even transformed betrayal into part of the path to redemption.<\/p>\n

          The Kingdom is not fragile. It is eternal.<\/p>\n

          And if you've ever been hurt by someone, disappointed, betrayed, wounded\u2026 Jesus isn't watching you from afar. He understands. He's lived through it. He knows what it's like to have your heart pierced by injustice.<\/p>\n

          And He teaches you to keep going, without turning to stone inside.<\/p>\n

          \n

          What does this passage say directly to you today?<\/h2>\n

          If I had to summarize Mark 3:13-19 as a living message, I would say this:<\/p>\n

          Jesus is calling you to come closer.<\/p>\n

          Not necessarily for a stage, but for presence. For connection. For daily learning.<\/p>\n

          And from that place, He will send you. He will use you. He will strengthen you. He will give you authority over that which haunts you, oppresses you, or tries to silence you.<\/p>\n

          But it all begins with the first purpose:<\/p>\n

          Stay with Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          So today, I wanted to ask you a simple question, from the heart:<\/p>\n

          Are you managing to stay with Jesus... or are you just trying to do things for Him?<\/p>\n

          Because if you return to the present moment, you will realize that:<\/p>\n

            \n
          • \n

            You don't have to carry the weight alone.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            You don't need to prove anything.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            You don't need to be perfect.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            You just need to be close.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            And being close changes everything.<\/p>\n

            \n

            A simple prayer (if you want to do it now)<\/h2>\n

            Jesus, I'm here.
            I accept Your invitation.
            Help me climb this "mountain" with you, to silence the noise and remain in Your presence.
            Call me again, strengthen me again, send me when the time comes.
            I trust in You.
            Amen.<\/p>\n
