Gospel of the Day – Mark 12:28-34

“One of the scribes came to him, who had heard them arguing, and knowing that he had answered them well, he asked him: What is the first of all the commandments?

And Jesus answered him: The first of all commandments is: Hear, Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.

You shall therefore love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength; this is the first commandment.

And the second, similar to this, is: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Very well, Master, and thou hast said in truth that there is one God, and that there is none other besides him;

And that to love Him with all your heart, and with all your mind, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.

And Jesus, seeing that he had answered wisely, said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared to ask him anything anymore“.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
