Gospel of the Day – Luke 11:1-13

“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he had finished, one of his disciples said to him: “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”

He said to them, “When you pray, say, “Father! Blessed is your name. Your Kingdom come.

Give us our daily bread each day.

Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation.”

Then he said to them: “Suppose one of you has a friend and he goes to him at midnight and says: 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine has arrived on a trip, and I have nothing to offer him.' .

“And whoever is inside answer, 'Don't bother me. The door is already closed, and my children and I are already in bed. I can't stand up and give you what you ask.'

I say: Although he will not get up to give you bread because he is your friend, because of your harassment he will get up and give you everything you need.

“Therefore I say: Ask, and it will be given; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened.

For everyone who asks receives; what he seeks, he finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or, if he asks for an egg, will he give him a scorpion?

If you, despite being evil, know how to give good things to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks for it!”

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
