“Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father, as he had loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

And when the supper was over, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God , He got up from supper, took off his clothes, and, taking a towel, girded himself.

Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to dry them with the towel with which he was girded.
So he approached Simon Peter, who said to him:

Lord, do you wash my feet? Jesus answered and said to him: What I do you do not know now, but you will know later.
Peter said to him, You will never wash my feet.

Jesus said to him, If I do not wash you, you have no part with me.
Simon Peter said to him: Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.

Jesus said to him: He who is washed needs only to wash his feet, for he is clean everywhere else. Now you are clean, but not all of you.

Because he knew well who would betray him; therefore he said: Ye are not all clean. After he washed their feet, and took his clothes, and sat down again at the table, he said to them:

Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Master and Lord, and you say well, because I am. Now if I, Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you must also wash one another's feet.

For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, you too“.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
