Gospel of the Day – Matthew 18:1-10

“At that very hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

And Jesus, calling a boy, set him in their midst,
And said:

Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore, whoever becomes humble like this boy, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me.

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Woe to the world because of scandals; for scandals must come, but woe to that man through whom the scandal comes!

Therefore, if your hand or your foot offends you, cut it off and throw it from you; It is better for you to enter life lame, or crippled, than, having two hands or two feet, to be cast into eternal fire.

And if your eye offends you, pluck it out and throw it from you; It is better for you to enter life with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into the fires of hell.

See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
