Gospel of the Day – Matthew 13:1-13

“That same day Jesus left the house and sat down by the sea.
A crowd gathered around him so large that he had to get into a boat and sit in it, while all the people remained on the beach.

Then he spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “The sower went out to sow. As he was sowing the seed, some of it fell by the wayside, and the birds came and ate it.

Part of it fell on rocky ground, where there was not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because the earth was not deep. But when the sun came out, the plants burned and dried up, because they had no roots.

Another part fell among thorns, which grew and suffocated the plants.
Still another fell on good ground, and yielded a good harvest, a hundred, sixty, and thirty to one.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear! “

The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables? “

He replied: “To you was given knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but not to them.

It will be given to whoever has it, and he will have it in abundance. From those who do not have, even what they have will be taken away.

For this reason I speak to them in parables: 'For seeing they do not see, and hearing they neither hear nor understand.'

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
