And immediately the whole crowd, seeing him, was astonished, and running to him, they saluted him. And he asked the scribes: What do you argue with them?

And one of the multitude answering said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a mute spirit;

And this man, wherever he catches him, tears him to pieces, and he foams, and gnashes his teeth, and wastes away; and I told your disciples to cast him out, and they could not.

And he answering them said: O unbelieving generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I continue to suffer you? Bring it to me.

And they brought him; and when he saw him, immediately the spirit shook him violently, and, as the demon-possessed man fell to the ground, he rolled around, foaming.

And he asked his father: How long has this been happening to him? And he said unto him, From childhood.

And he has often thrown him into the fire and into the water to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.

And Jesus said to him: If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.
And immediately the boy's father, crying out with tears, said: I believe, Lord! help my unbelief.

And Jesus, seeing that the crowd was coming, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him: Mute and deaf spirit, I command you: Come out of him, and enter no more into him.

And he, crying out, and shaking him violently, went out; and the boy remained as if dead, so that many said he was dead.

But Jesus, taking him by the hand, lifted him up, and he stood up. And when he entered the house, his disciples asked him aside: Why could we not cast him out?

And he said unto them, This kind cannot come out with anything but prayer and fasting..

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
