And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, came, and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

And he besought her much, saying, My daughter is at death; I beg you to come and lay your hands on him, so that he may heal and live.

And he went with him, and a great crowd followed him, crowding him.
And a certain woman who had had an issue of blood for twelve years,

And that he had suffered a lot with many doctors, and spent everything he had, without benefiting from it, but rather getting worse;

Hearing about Jesus, he came from behind, among the crowd, and touched his clothing. For he said: If I only touch his clothes, I will be healed.

And immediately the fountain of his blood dried up; and she felt in her body that she was already cured of that illness. And immediately Jesus, knowing that virtue had gone out of himself, turned to the crowd, and said:

Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the crowd pressing upon thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked around to see what this had done.

Then the woman, who knew what had happened to her, fearing and trembling, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.

And he said to her: Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace, and be healed of your evil.

While he was still speaking, some of the ruler of the synagogue came and said to them: Your daughter is dead; Why bother the Master more?

And Jesus, having heard these words, said to the ruler of the synagogue: Fear not, only believe. And he did not allow anyone to follow him except Peter, James, and John, James' brother.

And when he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, he saw the commotion, and those weeping greatly and mourning.

And he came in, and said unto them, Why do ye fret and weep? The girl is not dead, but she sleeps.

And they laughed at him; But when he had sent them out, he took with him the girl's father and mother, and those who were with him, and went in where the girl was lying.

And taking the girl's hand, he said to her: Talita cumi; which, translated, is: Girl, I say to you, get up.

And immediately the girl got up and walked, for she was already twelve years old; and they were astonished with great astonishment.

And he expressly commanded them that no one should know it; and told them to give him something to eat.

The Importance of the Gospel of the Day

As Christians, we place a high value on God’s Word. It is through belief in the Word of God that we are saved (Rm 10:17). The Word of God then becomes our guide for life in all circumstances, whether in employment, in social life or even in the family circle. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God.
