Gospel of the Day – Luke 10:25-37

“And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, tempting him, and saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

And he said unto him, What is written in the law? How do you read?
And he answered and said:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.

And he said unto him, Thou hast answered well; do this, and you will live.
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbor?

And Jesus answering said, A man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, and having beaten him, went their way, leaving him half dead.

And occasionally a certain priest went down the same path; and when he saw him, he passed by.

And in the same way a Levite also came to that place, and when he saw him, he passed by.

But a Samaritan, who was traveling, came to him and, seeing him, was moved with deep compassion;

And he came near and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine upon them; and, putting him on his animal, he took him to an inn, and took care of him;

And when he departed the next day, he took out two pieces of money, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him; and whatever else you spend, I will pay you back when I return.

Which of these three do you think was close to him who fell into the hands of robbers?

And he said, He that hath shown mercy unto him. Jesus therefore said, Go, and do in the same manner“.
